Enamel defects and developmental discolourations - particularly fluorosis are common clinical challenges that can significantly impact patient confidence. Successful management begins with accurate diagnosis and the ability to distinguish fluorosis from other enamel defects and post-eruptive lesions. This session will provide a practical, minimally invasive framework for assessing and treating both brown spot lesions and white spot lesions, using a stepwise approach that prioritises enamel preservation while achieving highly aesthetic, biomimetic outcomes.

Resin infiltration has emerged as an effective conservative option for stabilising and masking non-cavitated enamel lesions, reducing lesion visibility without surgical removal of tooth structure. Where infiltration alone is insufficient - particularly in deeper or more complex discolourations-adjunctive techniques including whitening, microabrasion, and minimally invasive restorations (composite resin and ultra-conservative porcelain veneers) will be discussed to help clinicians tailor treatment to lesion type, depth, and patient expectations. The aim is to provide predictable protocols that deliver natural optical integration, appropriate surface texture, and long-term maintainability.

The lecture is supported by current evidence demonstrating the effectiveness of resin infiltration in lesion arrest and aesthetic camouflage, with additional focus on combining infiltration with restorative strategies when indicated.
